The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will begin issuing call-up orders to 60,000 reservists starting today, ahead of a major offensive targeting Hamas in Gaza City, following approval from Defense Minister Israel Katz, according to official IDF statements and security sources.

The mobilization, part of a strategic escalation, will unfold in phased deployments rather than a single wave. The initial batch, comprising 40,000 to 50,000 reservists, is scheduled to report for duty on September 2, 2025. Subsequent call-ups are planned for November-December 2025 and February-March 2026, the IDF confirmed.

This mobilization supplements the tens of thousands of reservists already serving, with many current personnel facing an extension of their duty by 30-40 days. At peak operation, the total reservist force is projected to reach approximately 130,000.The call-up encompasses three brigades, additional battalions, and a significant number of combat support personnel, including intelligence and logistics units.

Not all reservists will engage in the Gaza City operation; some will rotate into other fronts to relieve standing army troops, ensuring operational continuity across multiple theaters. The offensive will involve five IDF divisions, totaling tens of thousands of troops, supported by 12 brigade-level teams. Each team integrates infantry, armored units, artillery, and combat engineering forces, bolstered by comprehensive combat support.

Additionally, the Gaza Division’s northern and southern brigades—typically stationed along the border—will join the effort, elevating the brigade count to 14.This large-scale mobilization underscores the IDF’s intent to execute a decisive campaign against Hamas, with preparations intensifying in the coming weeks.
